This system also comes with more options for the end user such as 100′ of hose or 150′ of hose, as well as a complete spray wand with tip and filter. What is Tack Coat?
Tact Coat is defined as a thin bituminous liquid asphalt, emulsion or cutback layer applied between HMA pavement lifts to promote bonding. Inadequate bonding between layers can result in debonding followed by, fatigue cracking, potholes, and other distresses such as rutting that greatly reduce pavement life.
Application
A tack coat is sprayed on the surface of an existing asphalt or concrete pavement by a distributor truck immediately prior to placing an overlay. The goal is to achieve uniform coverage over the entire surface to be paved. Once the tack coat is in place it should be given time to cure and become tacky. Normally this would only require a few minutes. When looking at Tack coats, they should be applied uniformly across the entire pavement surface to result in about 90 percent surface coverage. In order for this uniformity to be consistently achieved, all aspects of the application must be considered and carefully controlled. Specific aspects are:
- The condition of the pavement surface receiving the tack coat
- The application rate
- Tack coat dilution
